The Organizing Committee of the 2023 World Rowing U23 Championships received an award for ecology
The Organizing Committee of the 2023 World Rowing U23 Championships received a special "ECO Star" award for the environmentally friendly manner in which the Championships were conducted. As it is known, during the Championships, an organization for the separate collection of large amounts of plastic was established. In partnership with "Ecopack Bulgaria" - the largest organization for separate collection of packaging waste, and the association "BG Be Active," over 300 kg of plastic were collected, exported, and recycled.
The Secretary-General of the Organizing Committee, Daniel Hristov, and Event Director Katya Kozhuharova received the award at a special ceremony organized by Ecopack Bulgaria and the Municipality of Plovdiv, "ECO Stars," for sports, catering, and educational facilities and establishments that collect their waste separately, including plastic bottles and aluminum cans. "Thank you for the excellent partnership with Ecopack Bulgaria. Conducting major events that are environmentally friendly is not only the responsibility of our organizing committee but also of World Rowing as a whole. We have always made efforts in this direction, but last year, in collaboration with Ecopack and the association "BG Be Active," the regatta venue was exceptionally clean, and a significant amount of plastic was collected for recycling, rather than ending up directly in the environment," said Daniel Hristov.
This year, "Ecopack Bulgaria" awarded for the first time 20 sports facilities and organizations, educational institutions, facilities for public catering and entertainment, festivals, and events in the Municipality of Plovdiv for their active participation in the separate collection of packaging waste.
