ACCESS

The Plovdiv regatta venue is conveniently located within the city, adjacent to the Maritsa River, making it easily accessible by rail, road, and public transport services, which operate year-round.

By air

Plovdiv is served by two international airports:

• Sofia International Airport: www.sofia-airport.eu – Approximately 90 minutes by car (140 km). The airport is near highway A1/E80, which leads directly to Plovdiv.
• Plovdiv International Airport: www.plovdivairport.com – Approximately 20 minutes by car (12 km southeast of Plovdiv).

By road

Plovdiv can be reached by taking highway A1/E80 from Sofia, a distance of about 140 km or approximately 90 minutes driving time.

It also lies on the European Transport Corridors:

• No IV: Dresden – Prague – Bratislava – Győr – Budapest – Arad – Craiova – Sofia – Plovdiv – Istanbul, with a diversion connecting Sofia – Kulata – Thessaloniki.
• No VIII: Durrës – Tirana – Kaftan/Kafasan – Skopje – Deve Bair – Gyueshevo – Sofia – Plovdiv – Burgas – (Varna).

Public Transport

There is public transport from the regatta venue to the city centre and back via buses 10, 15 and 17. The bus stop is located at the crossroads before the spectator entrance to the venue.

By Train / By Bus

• By Train: Plovdiv can be reached by train from Sofia in about 3 hours.
• By Bus: There is regular bus service from Sofia Central Bus Station to Plovdiv, taking approximately 2.5 hours.

TRANSPORT

Airport transfers

Teams and officials who have booked accommodation through the Plovdiv Organising Committee (OC) will be offered transportation between Sofia International/Plovdiv International Airport and Plovdiv free of charge. This service must be booked in advance by submitting a request form to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. no later than Wednesday, 30th April, 2025.

Please make sure to indicate if wheelchair user options are required or if a companion dog will be traveling with you.

Please also let us know if your athletes will be bringing oars or any oversized luggage on their flight.

Teams or officials making their own accommodation arrangements will need to contact the OC if they require transportation service from/to Sofia International/Plovdiv International Airports to/from Plovdiv. This transport service will be provided against a fee.

Shuttle bus service

The Plovdiv Organising Committee will provide transportation routes serving the official hotels and the regatta venue throughout training and competition days. For teams and officials who have booked accommodation through the OC, this service will be free of charge during official training and racing days.

Please note that before the official opening of the venue, a fee will apply if a shuttle bus is needed.

Team vehicles and parking

Due to limited parking space at the venue, only teams who have booked their accommodation through the OC will be allowed vehicle access to the venue. All participants must use the official transportation system. Only vehicles with parking permits for specified parking areas will be allowed to enter the regatta venue territory.
